CHORDS
Chords are the sounding together of 2 or more different notes of scale tones. Although,
the term usually refers to one or more different notes sounded together, where 2 different
notes are used the 3rd note is implied. Compare the spelling of chords shown in the table
below with the structure of scales shown in the table above. The numbers 1, 2 (9), 3,
4 (11), 5, 6 (13) and 7 refer to the degrees of a scale from which chords are harmonically
constructed and spelt. The spelling for chords in the Major, Minor and Dominant families are
shown in the table below.
