DIMINISHED SCALE:
Diminished scales, as with the augmented scales above, ascend and descend in equal interval steps from a root to the octave and by doing so, also shift the notion of key-centre from one tone to the next. Several variations of equal interval stepping for diminished scales and the diminished arpeggio are shown in the diagram below. Notice that the Dim. 8 Tone and Dim. 7th are the same scale and are the same as the whole-tone half-tone "W-T H-T" scale (see Tone scales below), the ½ Dim. (Locrian) is the same as the locrian mode and the diminished is the same as the W-T H-T #2 tone scale below.
